Bass Lessons: Film Editing Introduction

Software: Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and Logic 8.0.0


Introduction:

It was initially decided to use the full one hour footage as evidence of the bass lessons that were taking place, however this would of made them very boring, lengthy and too large to import onto the web log. The particular blogger that was being utilised – www.blogger.com, had a maximum of 100MB that could be imported onto the blog, this would have worked out to around forty minutes of footage when using an MPEG-4 compression rate. However this would have not only taken a lengthy time to edit but also to import onto Blogger.com, so the decision was made to summarise the lessons in ten minute films so that those observing could watch them comfortably and fairly quickly.

There were twenty hours of bass lesson footage in total, with recordings beginning in February and finishing in July. The lessons were shot using a mini DV Sony DCR-HC51 handy cam (refer to Figure 1, 2 and 3) and were then edited on an i-Mac Macintosh computer (refer to Figure 4) with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4; where Logic 8.0.0 was used if needed for audio editing.
